Glass is not just nice to
hold and see and awfully sad when it breaks, but it is also safe and healthy.
Irrespective of the shape and size glass bottles are timeless and classic.
Looks
matter in packaging
The transparency of glass
has a different appeal in comparison to the one in a plastic bottle. The
see-throughness of glass is regal and does not have any cheapness about it.
Glass packaging makes it seem as if the product is as high end as the packaging.
Dairy products like yogurt, milk, cheese look grand when placed in glass
bottles and stored on the shelves. Moreover, they do not get distorted with
repeated usage or exposure to heat.
Preserving
the taste
Glass as a material is safe
for any product because it does not allow the product inside to get
contaminated. Unless it is broken the food inside cannot be harmed by mold or
moisture. In the case of plastic containers, the material is often not tough
enough to withstand the weather or temperature changes outside and yet preserve
the taste or smell of the food. In most cases, plastic containers tend to give
off a smell which is intolerable and erode over time and break easily.
Safety
in glass containers
Glass containers are always
of the food grade variety while most plastic containers are not even BPA free.
BPA can pose serious problems for children and affect prostate functions, brain
function, and even hormone levels. Glass, on the other hand, is made of natural
materials like limestone, soda ash, and sand.
Environmental
concerns
In the midst of
environmental concerns, glass is the right
choice for most because it can be recycled easily. It takes about 30 days for a
discarded bottle to be recycled and brought back to the shelf. The recycling
process takes about 40% less energy than creating a new one. The process
neither compromises on quality nor allows the entry of toxins. Alternatively,
they can also be used after washing as in the case of milk and cold drink
bottles. The old ones are taken back by the delivery company and replaced with
new ones.
Repurposing
the glass
Glass containers meant for
one purpose can easily be used for other things. Whether it is storing
something else or turning it into a transparent flower vase glass has multiple
uses. Glass can never go out of style!
Maintenance
and use
Glass bottles are definitely
easier to clean because of the material used in making the bottles. In the case
of utensils, the transparency makes it easier to notice the amount of food
remaining and use it up. Tempered glass can be heated and used straight from
the fridge. It helps in reducing the workload and cleaning up easy. Food
wastage is also reduced considerably since all of it gets used up from time to
time. The visibility in plastic containers is not as much and results in food
wastage.
Glass has reigned supreme
for more than 5000 years with little change in the last few centuries. It is
the healthiest material available and is not likely to be replaced easily.
